FASHION FORWARD EXHIBITION
Fashion Forward is the latest contemporary fashion exhibition at Lotherton Hall Museum, featuring brand new garments and bespoke pieces from some of the most exciting designers in Britain. The exhibition, from 1 March - 20 October 2019, highlighted the breadth of talent in British contemporary fashion from a group of designers who are either from, have studied or are still based in Yorkshire. Including the latest pieces from innovative design duo Cunnington & Sanderson.
Natalie Raw, Curator of Dress and Textiles at Leeds Museums & Galleries commented:
“The exhibition brings together an inspiring range of contemporary designers who are forging their own path in fashion and breaking the boundaries of what fashion represents. From narrative led design to intricate detailing, ethical processes and small scale production, each designer featured has their own story to tell and this resonates with Lotherton’s own story of a museum which has been 50 years in the making.”
Cunnington & Sanderson will display a selection of garments from their current collection entitled Occupied, based on a narrative focussing on the emotional burden of depression and building positivity by creating awareness about Mental Health. The garments showcase intricate draped styling for which the design duo are known, proudly working with fine wools such as locally produced fabric from Abraham Moons.
With special Thanks to Leeds Museums & Galleries & Friends of Leeds Museums, Leeds City Council & Arts Council England, V&A Lottery Funded a selection of garments by Cunnington & Sanderson will become part of Leeds Museums & Galleries permanent collection after the exhibition.
