Belonging: Fashion & A Sense of Place fashion exhibition

It is with great pleasure to announce that luxury womenswear brand Cunnington & Sanderson have exclusive garments and fashion images on display at Bankfield Museum. entitled - Belonging: Fashion & A Sense of Place. Inspired by West Riding, Yorkshire and how it inspires contemporary fashion.

Exploring the influence of the West Riding of Yorkshire on contemporary fashion, this exhibition brings together works from a range of fashion designer's and creatives who have been inspired by the many elements that make the area unique. Drawing on themes such as landscape, community spirit, wit and humour and the enduring influence of the textile industry, this multi-disciplinary showcase celebrates the distinctive character of the place and the creative people connected to it. A curatorial collaboration between Leeds Arts University and Bankfield Museum has enabled an exciting opportunity to utilise the extensive fashion archive at the museum, positioning historical items alongside modern garments and fashion media.


"We feel privileged to call this outstanding countryside our back garden," said Sanderson.

Featuring works by Cunnington & Sanderson, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Red or Dead, Edward Crutchley, Nial Cottrell, Kate Brittain, Neesha Tulsi, Champaneria, Sadie Clayton, Rav Matharu, Mary Benson, Vivek Vadoliya, John Bulmer, Martin Parr and more.


An exhibition curated by Janie Tweddle, Nicola Knight (Leeds Arts University) & Elinor Camille-Wood (Bankfield Museum).

Occupied


The narrative of the emotionally symbolic collection ‘Occupied’ was inspired by the feelings associated with depression. The aim to design thought provoking garments to break the stigma surrounding Mental Health by creating awareness and giving hope and encouragement to others.


Feelings of optimism are draped into the designs with skilled tailoring and unique craftsmanship. As emotions are revealed.


Cunnington & Sanderson invite us all to take on the physical act of wearing them.
